The African Mail is committed to rigorous, independent, and culturally grounded journalism that captures the political, economic, technological, and cultural dynamics of Africa and its diaspora. We believe in reporting that is accurate, balanced, nuanced, and accountable to our readers.

2. Accuracy, Attribution and Intellectual Integrity

We commit to factual precision in all publications. Our journalists and video editors attribute all quotes, claims, archival footage, and third-party data to their primary originators. Plagiarism, fabricated accounts, or uncredited reproduction of competitor reporting is strictly prohibited and grounds for immediate dismissal.

3. Editorial Independence and Non-Partisanship

The African Mail is not affiliated with any political party, government agency, or corporate interest group. Our coverage of elections, geopolitical conflicts, public policy, and corporate actions is conducted with impartiality. We provide fair opportunity for all subjects of critical coverage to respond prior to publication.

4. Corrections and Retraction Practices

When errors of fact occur, we correct them transparently and expeditiously. We do not stealth-edit stories. Every meaningful change is accompanied by an editor's note documenting the correction.

5. AI, Automation and Synthetic Media Guidelines

While our newsroom may utilize modern computational tools for research organization, audio transcription, or translation assistance, human editors write, verify, and take full legal and ethical accountability for every published word and video frame.

We strictly prohibit the publication of unverified synthetic media, deceptive deepfakes, or automated generic text. Any illustrative use of generative graphics is labeled prominently as visual illustration.

6. Conflicts of Interest and Financial Disclosures

Editorial staff and contributing journalists may not accept gifts, free travel, personal loans, or preferential commercial perks from entities they cover. If a journalist has any personal, family, or financial tie to a story subject, that conflict must be disclosed to the managing editor and recused from coverage.

7. Community Engagement and Moderation

We encourage constructive commentary and debate across our comment sections and interactive desks. Comments containing hate speech, incitement to violence, defamation, harassment, or commercial spam will be removed by our moderation desk in accordance with our Terms of Service.
